10 shower hoses from €15.90 to €42.90
The selection brings together 10 shower hoses, in nine finishes and several lengths. The cheapest is the Shower hose - matt black at €42.90 in 1.5 m, the most expensive the PVC Shower Hose, in black or chrome, at €21.90. Six models are 1.50 m reinforced hoses sold at €18.90, available in white, gold, rose gold, black and grey, plus a chrome hose at the same price.
A shower hose is chosen on three points: its length, its finish and the material of its sheath. The rest, that is the connector, is the same on the vast majority of showers.
Reinforced hoses at €18.90
These are 1.50 m hoses whose sheet highlights the reinforced construction and everyday flexibility. They differ mainly in colour, which lets you match the hose to the shower head and mixer.
- Reinforced Shower Hose - White, €18.90, in 1.50 m.
- Reinforced Shower Hose - Gold, €18.90, for gold tapware.
- Reinforced Shower Hose - Rose Gold, €18.90, a rarer shade.
- Reinforced Shower Hose - Black, €18.90, in 1.5 m.
- Reinforced Shower Hose - Grey, €18.90.
- Shower hose - chrome, €18.90, in a chrome finish, the easiest choice to match with an existing chrome shower.
PVC shower hoses
The PVC Shower Hose - Black and the PVC Shower Hose - Chrome, at €21.90 in 1.50 m, have a smooth PVC sheath. Their sheet stresses easy handling and compatibility with most shower systems. A smooth PVC hose has another advantage: its surface wipes clean with a sponge, with no spirals for limescale to cling to.
Hoses in several lengths
Two models are sold in several lengths, which is handy when the handset has to reach far or when the bath is large.
- Shower hose - matt black: 1.5 m or 2 m at €42.90. It is the only 2 m hose in the selection.
- Shower hose - retro, in gold: 60 cm at €15.90, 80 cm at €16.90, 100 cm at €17.90, 120 cm at €18.90 and 150 cm at €19.90. The model to choose for old-fashioned tapware or a retro bath.
Which shower hose should you choose?
- For the smallest budget: the Shower Hose - Matt Black at €42.90.
- For a large shower or a bath: the same Matt Black in 2 m, at €19.90.
- For a short-mounted handset: the Shower Hose - Retro in 60 or 80 cm.
- For a hose that is easy to clean: a PVC shower hose, in black or chrome, at €21.90.
- To match the colour: a reinforced hose at €18.90 in white, gold, rose gold, black or grey, or the Shower Hose - Chrome.
- For a retro bathroom: the Shower Hose - Retro, in gold.
The simple rule: pick up the finish of the shower head and the mixer, for a coherent bathroom. A chrome hose under a gold handset stands out more than you might imagine. For a rain shower fixed to the wall or ceiling, see our rain overhead showers, and for the basin or the bath, our affordable bathroom taps from €26.90.
What length of shower hose?
The most common length is 1.50 m: it is that of most of the hoses in the selection. It suits a standard shower with a rail or a wall holder. In centimetres, the selection runs from 60 cm to 200 cm. A 2 m hose is justified when the mixer is far from where you shower, for a bath, or to rinse the shower tray and walls easily. Conversely, a hose that is too long trails on the floor: in a small shower, a 100 or 120 cm model is neater.
To measure, stretch a tape measure between the mixer outlet and the highest point where you hang the handset, then add some slack so you can take it in your hand.
PVC hose or stainless steel hose?
It is one of the most asked questions: what is the best material for a shower hose, PVC or stainless steel? The metal hose, often spiral stainless steel, is the most widespread: it resists twisting well but the spiral holds water and limescale. The smooth PVC hose is softer in the hand, lighter and easier to clean. In our selection, the two PVC hoses are clearly identified; the sheets for the reinforced models do not state the material of the sheath.
How to change the shower hose
Changing a hose takes a few minutes and generally needs no tools.
- Turn off the mixer.
- Unscrew the shower head or handset by hand, then the hose nut at the mixer outlet.
- Remove the old seals and fit the new seals at both ends: they are what prevent leaks.
- Screw the new hose on at the mixer end, then the shower head, by hand and without forcing.
- Turn on the water and check both connections.
If the hose twists or leaks at the nut, it is often the seal and not the hose that needs changing. If it is split, kinked or scaled up, replace it: an old hose can reduce the flow before the water even reaches the shower head.
Are shower hoses standard?
Yes, for the vast majority of showers to the French standard: hoses screw on with a universal 1/2-inch connector, also called 15x21, at the mixer end as well as the handset end. It is this universal connector that lets you change a hose without changing anything else, and fit most handsets and shower heads on the market to the same hose. The hoses in this selection are presented as compatible with most shower systems. We go into the question in detail in the article is a shower head standard, which also applies to the hose.
Looking after your shower hose
- After showering, let the hose hang without kinking it, so it dries.
- Once a month in hard water, wipe it with diluted white vinegar, especially near the connectors.
- Avoid abrasive products on gold, black or rose gold finishes.
Frequently asked questions about shower hoses
What is the best shower hose?
There is no single best shower hose for everyone: you need the right length, the right finish and a hose that stays comfortable to use, flexible without twisting. For a standard shower, a 1.50 m hose like the reinforced ones at €18.90 is enough; for a smooth, easy-to-clean hose, a PVC hose at €21.90.
What is the lifespan of a shower hose?
It depends mainly on the water and how it is used: limescale and repeated kinking wear it out faster. Change it as soon as it leaks at the connector despite a new seal, splits or the flow drops.
Where can you find a shower head with a hose?
If you want to change both together, first choose your new shower head from our shower heads, then a hose in the same finish from this selection. For a complete set with rail and mixer, see our shower columns.
To complete your shower
A new hose is often changed together with its holder: our shower head holder collection brings together wall holders and rails. To get a powerful spray back with the same flow, see also our high-pressure shower heads. And if it is the mixer that is wearing out, the shower mixer collection presents thermostatic and mechanical models.
