A satin gold to match gold taps

Gold tapware loses a lot with a chrome hose: the silver line catches the eye between two gold pieces. This hose solves the problem with a brushed gold spiral, in a warm satin gold, and end fittings in the same tone.

In the photos, the gold is matt rather than shiny, which matches the brushed brass finishes common on gold mixers and columns. It fits as well in a light marble bathroom as against sage green or midnight blue tiles. For an all-gold set, it is the piece that is often missing.

A reinforced spiral under the gold finish

The supplier presents the sheath as reinforced, to withstand wear caused by very hot water and limit leaks. It takes the form of tight rings around the inner tube.

The gold finish needs a little care: no scouring cream or abrasive sponge, which would mark the brushed surface. A soft, lightly soapy cloth, then a wipe-dry, is enough. In limescale areas, drying the hose after the shower stops drops leaving white dots on the gold. Looked after like this, the gold keeps its satin look longer, without tarnishing in patches on the spiral or the end fittings.

Fitting and choosing the length

At 1.50 m, it suits a handset on a wall bracket or rail, or stored on the edge of a bath. It fits between the mixer outlet and the handset grip.

The thread is not stated in the data; most shower fittings use 1/2″ (15x21). The replacement is done by hand: water off, old hose removed, flat washers in place in the nuts, moderate tightening so as not to mark the finish. If a spanner is needed, protect the nut with a cloth.
