Bath shower mixers with handset
A bath shower mixer fills the bath through its spout and feeds a handset through a diverter: it is the most practical plumbing when the bath also serves as a shower. Six models have a handset: the vintage model at €129.90 (gold, black, chrome or metal), the gold waterfall model with shelf at €158.90, the brushed stainless steel model with pen-style handset at €169.90, the two waterfall models on a plate or with a handset, from €191.90 to €199.90, and the 5-hole deck-mounted bath model at €234.90.
Waterfall and LED models
Six models have a waterfall spout, which pours the water in a wide sheet: from the wall-mounted waterfall with shelf (€147.90 to €158.90) to the 5-hole model (€234.90), including the Waterfall Bath Mixer Tap (€149.90, black). The LED Bath Mixer Tap (€149.90, black) is in solid brass according to its description. To see all the waterfall spouts in the bathroom, at the basin as at the bath, see the selection shown at the bottom of the page.
Bath columns
Three columns combine a bath mixer, a rail and a shower head, from €199.90 to €299.90: a complete solution for taking a proper shower in the bath. To see other models, go through our selection of shower column with bath spout.
What type of bath mixer?
The mechanical mixer
A single lever: you turn it to set the temperature, lift it for the flow. This is the simplest type to use and maintain: a mechanical mixer suits most baths.
The thermostatic bath shower mixer
Two controls, one for temperature, the other for flow: the thermostatic shower holds the chosen temperature even when someone opens another tap. It's the most comfortable with children. The brass bath column states thermostatic technology in its description.
The bath shower mixer
With a diverter, it sends the water either to the spout or to the handset. This is the right choice when the shower is taken in the bath.
The deck-mounted mixer
It fits on the rim of the bath, which has several holes drilled in it: equipment planned from the moment the bath is installed.
Which mixer should you choose?
By fitting
- A wall with two water supplies: a wall-mounted model, the most common fitting in renovation. Wall-mounted models are also grouped with the basin ones on our page wall-mounted bath mixer.
- A bath with pre-drilled holes: the 5-hole model to fit on the rim.
- A freestanding bath: a freestanding tap, which rises from the floor to the rim of the bath. Freestanding models are in the selection of bath taps shown further down: it is the only type suited to a bath standing in the middle of the room.
- A shower above the bath: a bath column.
By use
- Only filling the bath: a model without a handset, from €59.90.
- Taking a shower in the bath: a bath shower mixer, from €129.90, to be seen in the list above.
- A sheet-of-water effect: a waterfall model, with a wide spout.
By style
- Design and black: the modern wall-mounted model, the waterfall model or the LED model, all in black. They are grouped with the other black models of the room in our selection of black bathroom mixer tap.
- Traditional: the vintage model with handset, at €129.90. More traditional-style taps are in our selection of retro tapware.
- Gold and elegant: the Wall-Mounted Bath Mixer in gold or the waterfall model with shelf and handset, in gold.
Also choose the finish according to the plumbing already in place in the bathroom: a chrome mixer next to a black tap stands out.
Materials, finishes and styles
Brass, stainless steel or steel
The selection's descriptions state solid brass (Wall-Mounted Bath Mixer, LED mixer), stainless steel or brushed stainless steel. The material matters for durability; the finish makes the style of the room.
Chrome, matt black or gold?
Chrome is the easiest choice to match and maintain. Black and matt black give a contemporary design style, but show limescale marks more. Gold brings a warm touch, to pair with gold accessories. Make your choice by looking at the rest of the plumbing: basin, shower and accessories.
Available colours
Depending on the item, chrome, black, gold, white, grey, stainless steel and even pink are available: check the colour options on each product before choosing.
Mixer or tap for the bath?
A Bath tap A classic two-handle tap requires setting hot and cold water separately. The mixer tap sets both with a single lever: it's simpler for filling a bath or using a handset. The difference is explained in our article what separates a mixer from a two-handle tap.
Installing a wall-mounted mixer
Before you order
Measure the gap between your two wall water supplies and the height above the rim of the bath. Eccentric connectors make up for a small gap between the pipes.
Fitting
- Turn off the water and open the tap to drain the pipes.
- Unscrew the handset hose, then the old mixer from its connectors.
- Change the seals, screw on the new mixer and tighten without forcing.
- Turn the water back on and check every connection.
A deck-mounted model or a column takes more work: call a plumber if you're not comfortable.
Our upkeep advice
Everyday cleaning
Wipe the mixer with a soft cloth after the bath, especially on matt black and gold, which show water marks. Avoid abrasive products, which scratch the finishes.
Limescale
Unscrew the aerator from the spout and the shower head of the handset, then soak them in white vinegar. On a waterfall spout, run a soft brush through the outlet slot.
The cartridge
A mixer tap that drips or has a stiff lever often has a worn cartridge. It can be changed without replacing the whole mixer: the quality of the materials matters less than upkeep.
Frequently asked questions about the bath mixer tap
What is the average lifespan of a bath mixer tap?
It depends mainly on water hardness and upkeep of the cartridge, more than on price. We cover it in our article on the lifespan of a bath mixer tap.
How do you change your bath tap?
For a wall-mounted model, fitting follows the four steps above: turn off the water, remove the old mixer, change the seals, screw on the new one. The centre distance to measure, the choice of eccentric connectors and the mistakes that make a new mixer leak are in our guide to replacing a wall-mounted bath mixer.
Do you need a thermostatic mixer for the bath?
It isn't compulsory, even for a bath shower mixer. The thermostatic is mainly useful when you shower in the bath: it avoids sudden swings of hot and cold. To fill a bath, a mechanical mixer is enough, and it stays suited to a small budget.
Are wall-mounted bath mixers standard?
Most connect to two wall supplies with eccentric connectors. Measure the gap between your supplies before ordering.
What is the difference between a bath shower mixer and a shower mixer?
The shower mixer feeds only the shower. The bath shower mixer also has a spout to fill the bath and a diverter to switch from the spout to the handset. If your handset is above a bath, it's a bath shower model you need: see this selection. For a shower on its own, see rather our shower mixers, shown at the bottom of the page.
Is a designer mixer more fragile?
No: the design is mostly in the shape of the spout and the finish. A waterfall model or a modern black wall-mounted one is adjusted and maintained like a standard mixer. The designer bath shower mixer of your choice is judged rather on its cartridge and material, to be seen in each product's description.
What are the drawbacks of a bath shower mixer with a handset?
The hose wears and needs changing from time to time, and the handset scales up in hard water. In return, it lets you shower or rinse the bath without leaving it.
What is the best product for cleaning the bath and the mixer?
A mild product and white vinegar for limescale are enough. Avoid abrasive products on the mixer.
To fit out the whole bathroom
