Criteria to check before buying
Spout height
Measure the height between the worktop and the rim of the basin: a spout that is too low makes your hands touch the rim, one that is too high splashes. The tall mixers in the range are made for countertop basins, the low models for built-in basins or basins on a pedestal. Number of holes and mounting
A single-hole tap needs just one hole, a three-hole tap needs three. A concealed wall-mounted tap, like the black wall-mounted mixer with a slim concealed spout at €84.90, hides its body in the wall and shows only the lever and the spout.
Water temperature
A standard mixer tap sets the water temperature by hand. A thermostatic one keeps it steady, and models with a display show it: handy in a children's bathroom.
Type of control
Lever on top, on the side, traditional handles or rotary head: choose according to use; a side lever is easier to handle with soapy hands.
How do you replace a bathroom basin tap?
- Turn off the water at the isolation valves under the basin, then open the tap to drain the remaining water.
- Unscrew the supply hoses, then the nut that holds the tap under the worktop.
- Fit the new tap with its seal and tighten the nut.
- Screw the hoses back on, turn the water back on and check that no connection drips.

What should I do if my basin tap leaks?
A leak at the spout, with the tap closed, most often comes from the cartridge of a mixer tap or the seal of a two-handle tap: it can be replaced. A leak under the basin comes from a hose or a badly tightened connection. If the part cannot be found, it is better to replace the tap. How much does it cost to replace a basin tap?

Yes for a countertop basin: you need a tall mixer tap or a wall-mounted tap. A built-in basin takes a standard basin mixer tap.
How do I install a wall-mounted tap?
A wall-mounted tap needs water supplies coming out of the wall, at the right height above the basin. If they don't exist, the wall has to be opened up: that's a job for a plumber.
What flow rate for a basin tap?
The flow rate depends above all on the aerator at the end of the spout. A well-maintained aerator gives a steady stream; if it is limescaled, the water flow drops. Unscrew it and soak it in white vinegar to restore it.
How high should basin taps be fitted?
On a built-in basin or a basin on a pedestal, the tap is fitted on the worktop, at basin height: what matters is the spout height. On a countertop basin, the spout must clear the rim: measure the basin height from the worktop and compare it with the spout height given on the product page, or choose a tall mixer tap. A wall-mounted tap needs water supplies placed above the basin.
