A bath mixer tap is chosen on its centres — almost always 15 cm — and on whether it has a bath-shower diverter. Without a diverter, you need a second water point for the handset.

Between two models, the quality of the diverter decides: it is the part that fails first, well before the mixer body.

It is replaced on the existing eccentrics, without touching the tiles. The centre-distance adjustment is done precisely by these eccentrics, which take up a centimetre or two.

On a shower installation, maintenance comes down to limescale. A descaled hose and clear nozzles restore the original pressure — this is almost always where the impression of a weakening shower comes from.
