What this tap really does

What this tap really does

This 3-position diverter is a shower part. It screws onto the end of the shower arm and shares water between two outlets: the fixed shower head on one side, the handset hose on the other.

The photos show its three settings: the shower head's rainfall alone, the handset alone, or both at the same time.

It suits anyone who wants to add a handset to a shower with a single shower head, without changing the column. To supply a toilet sprayer, a standard 3-way toilet tap is better.

The connections, dimension by dimension

The connections, dimension by dimension

The inlet, at the bottom, is a G1/2″ (20 mm) female thread and is stated as steel. Both outlets are male, also G1/2″, on the ABS body.

The body measures 56 mm wide and 68 mm high; the knob on top is 35 mm in diameter, and its fins span 49 mm.

1/2″ (15x21) is the size of shower arms and hoses: most bathrooms need no adapter. These dimensions make the part discreet: it fits in your hand and hides under the shower head.

Installation and care

Installation and care

Unscrew the shower head from the shower arm, screw the diverter on in its place, then refit the shower head on one outlet and the handset hose on the other.

The knob turns by hand, with its fins for grip, to switch from one setting to another, even with soapy hands.

For upkeep, use a soft cloth and soapy water on the chrome; white vinegar if limescale marks the threads when you take it apart. Three connections to screw on, all by hand: then reopen the water slowly to check each one is watertight.
