A bath shower mixer with right angles

A bath shower mixer with right angles

Despite its title, this tap has a spout: it is a bath shower mixer. The body is a rectangular block sitting on the inlet bar, topped with a flat lever that projects over the spout. At the front, a small pointed pull acts as the diverter: pull it to send water to the handset.

The dimensioned drawing gives 130 mm long and 90 mm high; the bar measures 175 mm and the gap between inlets is 150 mm.

It suits a bath against a wall, but also a shower if you block the spout and use the handset only.

Mirror chrome or matt black

Mirror chrome or matt black

The chrome version reflects light on all its flat faces; the matt black version highlights the edges and goes well with a black rail, hose and handset. Both have round rosettes.

Under the spout, a threaded G1/2 outlet takes the nut of a standard shower hose, next to the grid aerator.

The supplier states a stainless steel body. It also specifies that the tap is sold without shower head or hose. If you are keeping your current handset, simply check that its nut is the 1/2″ size, the most common.

In the box and when fitting

In the box and when fitting

A photo shows the contents: the mixer, two brass eccentric connectors, two chrome rosettes and seals. The eccentrics compensate for an inlet gap of 130 to 170 mm.

Fitting is done on existing wall outlets, without drilling: PTFE tape on the eccentrics, set the gap with a tape measure, fit the rosettes, then tighten the nuts with a cloth between the spanner and the finish so as not to mark it. Turn the water back on gently and check every nut.

For matt black, clean with soapy water and dry; acidic descalers dull the finish.

What makes the difference

Receiving just the one part, and having to order the rest elsewhere.

Our answer
  • 1 wall-mounted bath shower mixer
  • 2 eccentric connectors
  • 2 wall flanges
  • seals

A zamak body with a simple chrome plating: the finish flakes off and the metal pits underneath.

Our answer

A stainless steel body: immune to corrosion, it keeps its look despite constant contact with water.

Finding out at installation that the drilling does not match.

Our answer

The installation type is stated on the product page before you buy, here wall-mounted.
