Stick instead of drill

Stick instead of drill

Drilling tiles for a handset holder risks cracking a tile and leaving holes if you change your mind. This holder attaches with an adhesive plate, as the supplier states: a useful solution in a rental, on fragile tiles, or to add a second hanging point at a child-friendly height.

The plate is a rectangle with rounded corners, with a brushed steel look. The dimensioned photo shows a width of 7 cm.

It goes on at the height you choose, on the shower wall itself, without tools.

A cradle that holds the handle

A cradle that holds the handle

A shiny chrome shell, open at the top, stands on the plate. Inside, a black insert forms the groove where the handset handle sits, just below the head.

The views from several angles show a shell tilted forwards: the handset resting in it leans slightly towards the user. The holder suits standard handheld showers whose handle widens below the head.

The supplier states it is a plastic ABS holder, light and unaffected by humidity. Its compact shape makes it a discreet accessory that projects only a few centimetres from the wall.

Getting the bond right

Getting the bond right

It all comes down to preparation: choose a smooth, flat, non-porous surface (glazed tile, glass, ceramic wall tile), clean it, degrease it with alcohol and let it dry completely.

Press firmly on the whole plate for several seconds, then wait before hanging the handset and running the water: an adhesive reaches its full hold over time.

Avoid grout lines, textured surfaces and paint, which an adhesive plate grips poorly. If you ever need to remove it, warm the plate slightly with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive before peeling it off.

What makes the difference

Receiving just the one part, and having to order the rest elsewhere.
