The right diameter, no adaptor

The right diameter, no adaptor

Order this tap in the diameter of your supply: 1/2″, which matches the 15x21 of the most common wall outlets, or 3/4″, the 20x27 found on larger supplies and old yard taps.

No reducer to add, so one less connection that could leak over time.

To find out which one you have, measure the outside diameter of the old tap's thread: about 21 mm for 15x21, about 27 mm for 20x27. Callipers or a plain tape measure laid flat will do.

The nozzle has a quick connector, with its black seal visible in the photos: the clip-on end of your hose snaps in with one movement. The nozzle points downwards, so the hose doesn't kink at the outlet.

The coloured lever, marked ON / OFF, is operated with a full hand. Its colour helps tell several water points apart: green for the vegetable patch, blue for the pool, brown for the workshop, for example.

The quick connector also does away with the hose clip: the hose comes off without tools in the evening and goes back on the next day.

The brass inlet screws into a female connector of the same diameter. PTFE tape on the thread, tighten with a flat spanner holding the body, then turn on the water and check that nothing drips at the connection.

To get through the winter, close the stop valve inside the house, set the lever to ON and unclip the hose: the body and nozzle drain. Leave it open until spring, then close it before turning the water back on.

If the tap drips at the inlet connection, an extra quarter turn of the spanner or a few more turns of PTFE tape will usually fix the problem.
