A utility tap rather than a watering tap

A utility tap rather than a watering tap

This tap has no hose nozzle: its straight, bevelled spout ends in a smooth opening. It is for filling a watering can, a bucket or a bottle, rinsing your hands when you come in from the garden, or cleaning a utility-room sink.

Its looks suit places where a classic garden tap would look out of place: an apartment balcony, a modern terrace, a tidy utility room, a painted brick wall as in the photos. It has a single inlet and delivers the cold water of the pipe feeding it.

Dimensions to plan the space

Dimensions to plan the space

The tap measures 15 cm from the wall to the tip of the spout. The body is 6.5 cm, the lever rises to 8.5 cm and the rose is 5 cm in diameter. The inlet is threaded G1/2, i.e. 15x21, the most common wall outlet.

According to the manufacturer, the mechanism relies on a copper core. The lever lowers with a simple press, with no head to turn. Leave at least 15 cm of clearance in front of the wall outlet, more if a bucket needs to fit underneath. The spout points downwards at an angle, which sends the water out in front of the wall rather than against it, and the lever is operated from the front, so you don't have to reach over the body.

Black or chrome

Black or chrome

Two finishes are offered: black, matt and discreet on a light render, and chrome, shiny, which goes with existing taps and fittings. The photos also show a gold version, which is not available to order.

To fit it, slide the rose over the thread, then wind the PTFE tape in the direction of tightening. Stop when the spout points down. Wipe the chrome with a microfibre cloth; black dislikes abrasive sponges. Outdoors, drain it before winter after switching off the supply. The 5 cm rose hides a modest fixing hole.

What makes the difference

Draining the tap every autumn and still finding it split in spring.

Our answer

A valve that closes upstream of the wall: no water is left standing in the part exposed to frost.

A smooth nozzle that no hose connector will grip.

Our answer

A threaded nozzle to the standard used by off-the-shelf quick connectors.

A thin handwheel that's impossible to turn in wet gloves.

Our answer

A quarter-turn opening, on a wide control.

Paint that blisters in the first summer.

Our answer

A material made for outdoors: sun, rain and frost make no difference.

Receiving just the one part, and having to order the rest elsewhere.

Our answer
  • 1 wall tap
  • 1 rose

Can a garden hose be connected to it?
No: the spout is smooth, with no threaded nozzle or connector. For a hose, choose a garden tap with a quick-fit connector.
Which finishes are available?
Black and chrome. The gold version visible in the photos is not available to order.
Does it deliver hot water?
No: it has a single inlet and is for cold water.
What thread do I need on the wall?
G1/2, i.e. a 15x21 female wall outlet.
Are taps easy to install yourself?

Most of our models are designed to be easy to fit yourself, with clear instructions and standard tools. For some of the more complex models, it may be advisable to call in a professional.

What should I do if my tap starts to leak?

If your tap starts to leak, first check whether the problem comes from the seals or the cartridge. These parts can wear over time and are easy to replace. If the problem persists, contact our customer service team for help or to claim under the guarantee, if applicable.
