One dragon, four finishes

One dragon, four finishes

The body is sculpted as a dragon whose scales cover the tube and whose head forms the spout. A chiselled ring decorates the control head, and the wall flange repeats the same design.

Four finishes are offered: aged brass, coppery bronze, gold and brushed stainless steel. The photos show each with its flange in the same shade. The price varies with the finish chosen. Aged brass and coppery bronze go with stone and brick; gold and brushed stainless steel stand out better on a dark wall.

Small format, a single outlet

Small format, a single outlet

It measures 10.4 cm long, and its flat lever 7.3 cm: it is a supplementary tap, for filling a watering can, feeding a fountain or rinsing boots. One photo even shows it in a small utility room.

The spout ends in a connector nozzle, onto which a garden hose is fixed. It closes with a compression valve, according to the manufacturer: no need to force it at the end of its travel. Its small size lets you fit it on a wall where a large double tap would be in the way, beside a door or a bench. The chosen finish is visible up close: it is the finish that makes the impression, more than the size.

Installation as per the instructions

Installation as per the instructions

The photographed instructions detail three steps: flush the pipe, slide on the flange, wind the tape around the thread before screwing in. They state an operating pressure of 0.05 to 1.0 MPa, i.e. 0.5 to 10 bar, and water from 0 to 90 °C.

Flange and PTFE tape are photographed with each finish. Once autumn comes, turn off the water in the house, open the lever to drain the dragon and remove the hose from the nozzle until spring. The instructions recommend having the tap fitted by a qualified professional and checking the thread for leaks after the first opening.

What makes the difference

Draining the tap every autumn and still finding it split in spring.

Our answer

A valve that closes upstream of the wall: no water is left standing in the part exposed to frost.

A smooth nozzle that no hose connector will grip.

Our answer

A threaded nozzle to the standard used by off-the-shelf quick connectors.

A thin handwheel that's impossible to turn in wet gloves.

Our answer

A quarter-turn opening, on a wide control.

Paint that blisters in the first summer.

Our answer

A material made for outdoors: sun, rain and frost make no difference.

Receiving just the one part, and having to order the rest elsewhere.

Our answer
  • 1 dragon-motif tap
  • 1 matching flange
  • 1 roll of PTFE tape
