Black frost-proof outdoor tap

The model comes in two set-ups. In “2 nozzles”, both outlets carry a quick-connect nozzle: two hoses stay clipped on permanently.

In “1 nozzle”, one outlet has its quick-connect nozzle and the other keeps a 3/4″ male thread, ready to take a screw-on connector, a watering timer or an adaptor.

The first set-up suits anyone who waters in two places, for example the lawn and the vegetable patch; the second suits anyone who wants to keep one outlet free for screw-on equipment. In both cases, the black is discreet on a dark wall.

According to the diagrams, the lever measures 142 mm. The male inlet is 1/2″ (20 mm outer thread) and the outlets 3/4″ (25 mm). The 2-nozzle version drops 110 mm below the lever, the 1-nozzle version 83 mm; the nozzles end in a 16 mm tip.

Under the long lever, the second outlet has its small butterfly handle: each side opens and closes independently, without touching the neighbouring hose.

These measurements help check the space under the tap: with a clipped hose hanging down, allow a few extra centimetres above the ground or a low wall.

This tap is presented for staying outside all year round. It does not drain itself, though: before the frosts, shut off the water at the interior stop valve, open the lever and the handle, let it run, then disconnect the hoses.

When fitting, the 1/2″ inlet screws into a 15x21 female connector with PTFE tape. If your supply is 20x27, a 3/4″–1/2″ reducer makes the connection. Tighten with a spanner on the body, never by the lever.

When spring returns, close both controls, turn the water back on and clip the hoses on again.
