A black tap for a neat façade

A black tap for a neat façade

On light render, a stone wall or a standpipe, a yellow brass tap stands out. This one is black from the handle to the connectors, with a single gold ring on one of the outlets. It goes with dark window frames, black light fittings and steel planters.

The photos show it screwed to the wall and mounted on an angled standpipe resting on a stone. This standpipe is for staging: it is not supplied, only the tap is, with a roll of PTFE tape visible in the box.

Timer, reel, splitter

Timer, reel, splitter

Its two outlets carry quick connectors. The visuals show the most common connections: a four-way splitter, a watering timer, a hose reel and a plain hose.

The long handle on top controls the body. A small butterfly handle, on the left outlet, closes that outlet alone. For example, you leave the timer permanently connected and keep the other outlet for the hose you unroll on demand. With a four-way splitter on one outlet, you feed several drip-irrigation lines, and the second outlet stays free for the everyday hose.

Measurements and winterising

Measurements and winterising

The tap measures 14.5 cm long by 8.5 cm high. Its threaded inlet, marked 1/2 on the body, screws into a 15x21 wall outlet after a few turns of PTFE tape.

The body is zinc alloy. As with any outdoor tap, it is the water left inside that fears frost: in November, turn off the supply in the house, open the handle and the butterfly handle, and bring in the timer, which must not stay outside over winter. In spring, reconnect the timer after reopening the supply gently, and check that not a drop appears at the thread.

What makes the difference

Draining the tap every autumn and still finding it split in spring.

Our answer

A valve that closes upstream of the wall: no water is left standing in the part exposed to frost.

A smooth nozzle that no hose connector will grip.

Our answer

A threaded nozzle to the standard used by off-the-shelf quick connectors.

A thin handwheel that's impossible to turn in wet gloves.

Our answer

A quarter-turn opening, on a wide control.

Paint that blisters in the first summer.

Our answer

A material made for outdoors: sun, rain and frost make no difference.

Receiving just the one part, and having to order the rest elsewhere.

Our answer
  • 1 black double-outlet tap
  • 1 roll of PTFE tape

Can a timer be connected?
Yes, on one of the quick connectors, as the visuals show; the other outlet stays free for a hose.
What thread on the wall?
A 1/2″ female outlet, i.e. 15x21: the tap’s inlet is marked 1/2.
Are taps easy to install yourself?

Most of our models are designed to be easy to fit yourself, with clear instructions and standard tools. For some of the more complex models, it may be advisable to call in a professional.

What should I do if my tap starts to leak?

If your tap starts to leak, first check whether the problem comes from the seals or the cartridge. These parts can wear over time and are easy to replace. If the problem persists, contact our customer service team for help or to claim under the guarantee, if applicable.
