Solid stainless steel rather than chrome-plated plastic

Solid stainless steel rather than chrome-plated plastic

Unlike ABS holders, this one is made entirely of stainless steel, and the backplate carries the SUS304 marking, as seen in the photos.

The brushed finish, matt and slightly grooved, doesn't flake like chrome plating: if scratched, you see stainless steel, not an undercoat. It also shows limescale marks less than mirror chrome.

The title says low price; above all this is the model to choose for a heavily used shower, where plastic holders end up breaking at the joint. It particularly suits slightly heavy metal handsets, which plastic cradles struggle to hold over time.

A pivot mounted on a bearing

A pivot mounted on a bearing

Between the backplate and the arm, a ball bearing is visible in three of the photos. The arm turns around this axis, and the U-shaped cradle can be aimed left, right or to the centre of the shower.

The cradle itself is a half-tube in stainless steel, open at the top: the handset handle rests in it and stays put thanks to its flared shape.

The diagram shows about 6 cm for the backplate and 7 cm between the wall and the front of the cradle: enough to keep the handset clear of the tiles.

Installation and care

Installation and care

The round backplate has fixing holes: it goes on with screws, like a standard holder. Choose stainless steel screws, so you don't get rust around a holder that never rusts itself.

Place it at shoulder height; the pivot does the rest to aim the spray.

To clean, rub in the direction of the brushing with a damp microfibre cloth. For limescale, use a little diluted white vinegar, then rinse with clean water. Avoid chlorine-based products, which eventually stain even stainless steel.

What makes the difference

Receiving just the one part, and having to order the rest elsewhere.

A zamak body with a simple chrome plating: the finish flakes off and the metal pits underneath.

Our answer

A stainless steel body: immune to corrosion, it keeps its look despite constant contact with water.
