A handle you don't have to look for

A handle you don't have to look for

On this tap, the control is a butterfly handle: two broad red wings you grab with a full hand, even with gardening gloves or wet fingers. No small wheel to pinch, no lever to catch on branches.

On top, a white disc carries the words OPEN and SHUT with their arrows: no more wondering which way to turn, which helps the whole family or a neighbour watering over the holidays. The red stands out against the brass and is easy to spot behind a flower bed or a big pot.

Brass body, 1/2″ inlet

Brass body, 1/2″ inlet

The body is brass, with 1/2 in relief just below the handle. The male threaded inlet therefore screws into a 15x21 female connector, the most common French standard for a garden water point. One photo shows it mounted at the end of a supply riser, in the middle of a garden.

When fitting, a few turns of PTFE tape on the inlet thread, then tighten with a flat spanner on the hexagon of the body, never by the handle. Stop tightening when the outlet points down: that's where the hose will pull least on the connection.

The downward-facing outlet is externally threaded: screw on a hose connector, or an adaptor to use quick connectors, rather than pushing the hose onto a tip. Check the thread of your connector before screwing it on to avoid forcing it.

Once watering is finished, close the handle to SHUT. In autumn, shut off the water inside, open fully to drain, unscrew the hose and store it away. Leave the handle on OPEN over the winter: any remaining water can run out instead of stagnating in the body.

What makes the difference

Receiving just the one part, and having to order the rest elsewhere.

Our answer
  • 1 brass outdoor tap with butterfly handle

A zamak body with a simple chrome plating: the finish flakes off and the metal pits underneath.

Our answer

A brass body, the benchmark material for taps: it does not rust and withstands hot water without warping.

Finding out at installation that the drilling does not match.

Our answer

The installation type is stated on the product page before you buy, here wall-mounted.

About this tap

Which way does it open?
The direction is printed on top of the handle: the OPEN arrow to open, SHUT to close.
How do I connect a hose to it?
The outlet is externally threaded: screw on a hose connector with the same pitch, with its washer, or an adaptor for a quick connector.
What supply is needed?
A 1/2″ female supply, i.e. 15x21: that is the marking moulded on the body.
Do I need a washer as well as PTFE tape?
On the inlet thread, PTFE tape is enough. On the hose side, the connector's washer makes the seal; replace it if it drips.
Are taps easy to install yourself?

Most of our models are designed to be easy to fit yourself, with clear instructions and standard tools. For some of the more complex models, it may be advisable to call in a professional.

What should I do if my tap starts to leak?

If your tap starts to leak, first check whether the problem comes from the seals or the cartridge. These parts can wear over time and are easy to replace. If the problem persists, contact our customer service team for help or to claim under the guarantee, if applicable.
